Willem Zwiers’ Blow-Up lamps explore the expansion of volume in ceramics through an experimental technical process. They begin as wheel-thrown pieces which, before drying, are manipulated using air pressure and controlled deformation to alter their original geometry. The balance between tension, moisture and structure is key to setting the form before firing. The result is unique pieces where distortion becomes an aesthetic and sculptural feature.
Hand-thrown and air-expanded piece. Double-fired. High-temperature ceramic. Rough exterior with a natural texture. Glazed interior with a glossy finish, fired at approx. 1,250 °C. Measurements: 32 x 23 x 27 cm (each piece is unique).
