Carbonization is an ancient technique in ceramics, originating from the Prehistoric era. It's the process of coloring a piece black, resulting from its placement in the kiln with the absence of oxygen and at high temperatures. Besides the color change, the piece undergoes chemical variations that give the clay a consistency and hardness similar to that of a stone. Ramón Fort is one of the greatest potters who brilliantly applies this technique, treating his pieces as unique artistic objects.
